HOLLER IF YA HEAR ME Announces Casting

Award-winning slam poet, actor, singer, musician Saul Williams (Slam), Christopher Jackson (After Midnight),Saycon Sengbloh (Motown The MusicalFela!), Ben Thompson (Matilda), John Earl Jelks (Radio Golf – Tony nomination), Joshua Boone (Brownsville Song [b side for Tray] at Actors Theatre of Louisville), Dyllon Burnside(“Prison Break”) and Tony Award winner Tonya Pinkins (Jelly’s Last JamCaroline or Change, Play On!) will star in Holler If Ya Hear Me, the new Broadway musical inspired by the lyrics of Tupac Shakur.  Written by Todd Kreidler and directed by Kenny Leon, Holler If Ya Hear Me will begin performances on May 29, 2014 and open June 19, 2014 at the Palace Theatre (1564 Broadway at 47th Street).

Holler If Ya Hear Me, the world inside Tupac Shakur’s music and lyrics, blazes to life in a non-biographical story about friendship, family, revenge, change and hope. Inner city lives struggle for peace against the daily challenges they face in this entertaining and original musical. Through the poetry of one of the 20th century’s most influential and culturally prominent voices, we are given a window into realities of the streets still relevant today.

Saul Williams will play John, Christopher Jackson is Vertus, Saycon Sengbloh is Corinne, Ben Thompson will play Griffy, John Earl Jelks will play Street Preacher, Joshua Boone is Darius, Dyllon Burnside is Anthony and Tonya Pinkins will play Mrs. Weston.

The ensemble features Afi Bijou (Fela!), Mel Charlot (Three-time World Hip Hop Champion), Carrie Compere (Shrek National Tour), Otis Cotton, Ariana Groover (Bare Off-Broadway), Jared Joseph (Book of Mormon National Tour), Jahi Kearse (Baby It’s You), Muata Langley (freestyle Krump performer), Valentine Norton (“American Idol”), Christina Sajous (Spider-Man:  Turn off the Dark), Charlene “Chi Chi” Smith, Jaime Lincoln Smith (Ruined Off-Broadway), Donald Webber, Jr. (Motown The Musical) and Joaquina Kalukango(Antony and Cleopatra).

Save-The-Date! United Airlines Presents: STARS IN THE ALLEY On Wenesday May 21, 2014

STARS IN THE ALLEY, presented by United Airlines, will take place on Wednesday, May 21stfrom 11:00am – 12:30pm in Shubert Alley, between Broadway and 8th avenue and 44th and 45th streets.

The free outdoor concert in the heart of the theatre district will celebrate Broadway with star appearances and exciting performances from new shows and long-running favorites, to add to the festivities leading up to the Tony Awards.

BEAUTIFUL Original Broadway Cast Recording Now Available For Pre-Order

Ghostlight Records has announced that the Original Cast Recording of the new Broadway hit Beautiful - The Carole King Musical, can now be pre-ordered on iTunes, in advance of a Tuesday, April 1st digital release.  Those who pre-order the album will immediately receive a special advance track of Jessie Mueller’s “Will You Love Me Tomorrow.”  The album, produced by Jason Howland, Steve Sidwell and Billy Jay Stein, with Kurt Deutsch serving as Executive Producer, will be available in-stores on May 13, 2014 and will include a 28-page color booklet with full lyrics, rare and never-before-seen archival and show photos, and liner notes by Beautiful book writer Douglas McGrath.

Complete Cast Announced For First National Tour of MOTOWN THE MUSICAL

Producers Kevin McCollum, Doug Morris and Berry Gordy are proud to announce the complete cast for the First National Tour of Motown The Musical .
As previously announced,Clifton Oliver and Allison Semmes will star in the leading roles of Berry Gordy and Diana Ross. Portraying groundbreaking Motown artists, Nicholas Christopher will play Smokey Robinson and Jarran Muse will play Marvin Gaye. Leon Outlaw, Jr. and Reed L. Shannon will portray Berry Gordy’s boyhood counterpart and the roles of young stars Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder.

ON THE TOWN Will Open At Broadway’s Lyric theatre in October 2014

Producers Howard & Janet Kagan (Pippin, The Gershwins’ Porgy & Bess) are proud to announce that a new Broadway revival of On The Town– the musical-comedy love letter to New York City – will open in October 2014 at the Lyric Theatre. This year marks the 70th anniversary of the opening of this iconic musical comedy created by the legendary creative team of Leonard Bernstein, Betty Comden, Adolph Green, and Jerome Robbins. The Lyric Theatre will be reopened after a renovation being completed by its new owners, Ambassador Theatre Group. This historic theater at the crossroads of 42nd Street and Times Square was created from a combination of the original Apollo Theater, and the original Lyric Theatre that stood on the site, and the facade of which still stands on 42nd and 43rd Streets.

Casting, official opening night and ticketing information for On The Townwill be announced at a later date.

THE CURIOUS INCIDENT OF THE DOG IN THE NIGHT-TIME Will Play Broadway’s Barrymore Theatre

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time will begin preview performances on Monday, September 15 and officially open on Sunday, October 5 at the Barrymore Theatre on Broadway, 243 West 47th Street.

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time  transferred to London’s West End, following a sold-out run at the National’s Cottesloe Theatre in 2012. The production received seven 2013 Olivier Awards, including Best New Play.

Fifteen-year old Christopher has an extraordinary brain; he is exceptionally intelligent but ill-equipped to interpret everyday life. When he falls under suspicion for killing his neighbor’s dog, he sets out to identify the true culprit, which leads to an earth-shattering discovery and a journey that will change his life forever.

Audra McDonald To Portray Billie Holiday in LADY DAY AT EMERSON’S BAR & GRILL

On the heels of her recent success in NBC’s television special The Sound of Music Live!, Five-time Tony Award-winner Audra McDonald will return to Broadway this spring to take on the role of legendary jazz singer Billie Holiday in the Broadway premiere of Lanie Robertson’s Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar & Grill.  The musical play will be directed by Lonny Price (110 in the Shade, A Class Act) and will begin rehearsals on March 10, 2014, with previews beginning March 25, 2014, at the Circle in the Square Theatre (1633 Broadway) for a strictly limited 10 week engagement with only 70 performances. Opening night is set for April 13, 2014. 

Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar & Grill recounts Holiday’s life story through the songs that made her famous. 1959, in a small, intimate bar in Philadelphia, Holiday puts on a show that unbeknownst to the audience, will leave them witnesses to one of the last performances of her lifetime.  Through her poignant voice and moving songs, one of the greatest jazz singers of all-time shares her loves and her losses.

PIPPIN Welcomes Kyle Dean Massey & Ciara Renée to the Company, Beginning April 1, 2014

The producers of the Tony Award winning Pippin are pleased to announce that Kyle Dean Massey (Next to Normal, Wicked) and Ciara Renée (Big Fish) will assume the roles of “Pippin” and “Leading Player” (respectively) in the production beginning Tuesday, April 1, 2014. Matthew James Thomas and Tony Award winner Patina Miller will play their final performance on Sunday, March 30, 2014Pippin is now playing at the Music Box Theatre (239 West 45th Street).

Vanessa Williams To Join The Company Of Broadway’s AFTER MIDNIGHT

It was announced today during a live appearance from the stage of the Brooks Atkinson Theatre, that Multi-Platinum recording artist and actress Vanessa Williams is set to join the roster of “Special Guest Star” vocalists in the critically acclaimed Broadway musical, After Midnight. Williams will play performances from Tuesday, April 1, 2014 through Sunday, May 11, 2014 at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre (256 W 47th Street). Directed and choreographed by Warren Carlyle, After Midnight began preview performances on Friday, October 18, 2013, and opened to rave reviews on Sunday, November 3, 2013.
