KINKY BOOTS Announces First National Tour Casting

Daryl Roth and Hal Luftig, lead producers of Kinky Boots, the smash-hit musical that brings together four-time Tony® Award-winner Harvey Fierstein (Book) and Grammy® Award-winning rock icon Cyndi Lauper (Tony® Award-winner for Best Score for Kinky Boots), have announced casting for the upcoming first national tour. 

Kyle Taylor Parker (Kinky BootsIn the Heights national tour), one of the Angels in the original Broadway company, will strut his stuff as Lola - something he has done to great acclaim on several occasions in New York as the Lola understudy. Steven Booth (Avenue Q, Glory DaysDogfight) will star as shoe factory owner Charlie Price. Parker and Booth will be joined by Lindsay Nicole Chambers (Hairspray, Legally Blonde, Lysistrata Jones) as Lauren, Joe Coots (TV’s “Inside Amy Schumer,” Full Monty national tour) as Don, Craig Waletzko (Guys & Dolls, Young Frankenstein) as George and Grace Stockdale in her touring debut as Nicola.

Other casting includes Darius Harper, Ricky Schroeder, Juan Torres-Falcon, Hernando Umana, Damien Brett, Stephen Carrasco, Lauren Chapman, Amelia Cormack, J. Harrison Ghee, Blair Goldberg, Crystal Kellogg, Ross Lekites, Patty Lohr, Mike Longo, David McDonald, Bonnie Milligan, Horace Rogers, Anne Tolpegin and Sam Zeller.Additional casting will be announced soon. 

The national tour kicks off in Las Vegas September 4-14, 2014, followed by other United States west coast stops in Tempe, San Diego, Portland, Seattle, Denver, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Costa Mesa before heading east in 2015. The full tour route can be found at www.kinkybootsthemusical.com.

THE ELEPHANT MAN Announces Theatre, Dates & Additional Casting

The Elephant Man begins performances on Saturday, October 18, 2014 and will open on Thursday, November 13, 2014 at the Booth Theatre (222 W 45th St). The production will play a 13-week engagement through January 18, 2014.

This production was first produced and presented in July 2012 in Williamstown Massachusetts by the Williamstown Theatre Festival, Jenny Gersten, Artistic Director. Bradley Cooper (as John Merrick), Patricia Clarkson (as Mrs. Kendal) and Alessandro Nivola (as Dr. Fredrik Treves) all appeared together in that production, also directed by Scott Ellis. The Broadway cast will also include Anthony Heald (as Ross / Bishop Walsham How), Scott Lowell (as Snork / Pinhead Manager / Lord John), Kathryn Meisle (as Miss Sandwich / Princess) and Henry Stram (as Carr Gomm / Conductor). Full casting will be announced soon.

Based on the real life of Joseph Merrick, The Elephant Man tells the story of a 19th-century British man (Cooper) whose severe disfigurement made him a star of the traveling freak show circuit. When the renowned Dr. Treves (Nivola) takes Merrick under his care at the London Hospital, he discovers that beneath this shocking exterior lies a brilliant mind and an unshakable faith. Soon all of Victorian high society becomes fascinated by Merrick, especially the beautiful actress Mrs. Kendal (Clarkson). But with his new life comes new complexity… and as Merrick’s condition grows more severe, a “normal” life begins to seem all but impossible.

HEDWIG Original Broadway Cast Album To Be Released July 1

Atlantic Records will release the Original Broadway Cast Recording of Hedwig And The Angry Inch, the most nominated musical revival of the season, featuring Tony Award nominees Neil Patrick Harris and Lena Hall. The album is produced by Hedwig composer Stephen Trask, Tony Award nominated sound designer and platinum-selling record producer Tim O’Heir, and the production’s music director Justin Craig. The album is executive produced by Elie Landau and David Binder.

On July 1, the album will be available digitally everywhere and available on-site at the Belasco Theatre. Other retail outlets will begin selling the physical album Tuesday, July 15.

In addition to Harris and Hall, the album also features: Justin Craig (guitar, keyboards, vocals), Matt Duncan (bass, vocals), Tim Mislock (guitar, vocals), and Peter Yanowitz (drums, vocals).

ON YOUR FEET! The Story of Emilio & Gloria Estefan To Open On Broadway Fall 2015

The Nederlander Organization and Estefan Enterprises, Inc are pleased to announce that On Your Feet! – a new musical based on the life story of seven-time GRAMMY® winning international superstar Gloria Estefan and her husband, legendary producer-musician-entrepreneur Emilio Estefan  will premiere on Broadway in Fall 2015 at a Nederlander theatre to be announced, following a Summer 2015 World Premiere engagement in Chicago.

On Your Feet! will be directed by two-time Tony Award® winner Jerry Mitchell (Kinky Boots, Hairspray), and choreographed by four-time Drama Desk nominee Sergio Trujillo (Jersey Boys, Memphis) with a book by two-time Drama Desk nominee Alexander Dinelaris (The Bodyguard Musical, Zanna Don’t).  On Your Feet! is the story of two people who—through an unwavering dedication to one another and their pursuit of the American dream—showcased their talent, their music and their heritage to the world in a remarkable rise to global superstardom.  Set to Gloria’s chart-topping, smash hits such as “Rhythm Is Gonna Get You, “1-2-3,” “Mi Tierra,” and “Conga,” in addition to new music penned by the Estefans, the show will bring a new sound to Broadway and get audiences on their feet.

Hugh Jackman To Star In THE RIVER on Broadway

Sonia Friedman Productions will present the Royal Court Theatre production of The River, a new play by Jez Butterworth, starring Hugh Jackman, Laura Donnelly and Cush Jumbo, and directed by Ian Rickson. The River will open on Sunday, November 16 on Broadway at the Circle in the Square Theatre (West 50th Street between Broadway and Eighth Avenue).  Previews begin Friday, October 31.  The production will play a strictly limited 13-week engagement through Sunday, January 25, 2015.  On sale dates will be announced in coming weeks. 

The Riverwas first developed by Sonia Friedman Productions and was subsequently produced by the Royal Court Theatre.  It was presented from October 18-November 17, 2012 in the Royal Court’s Jerwood Theatre Upstairs, in a production directed by Mr. Rickson, also featuring Ms. Donnelly, who makes her Broadway debut alongside Ms. Jumbo. 

The producers are pleased to announce that a limited number of $35 day of seats will be available for every performance of THE RIVER.  Further details will be announced shortly.

ON THE TOWN Will Open October 16 At Broadway’s Lyric Theatre

On The Town –the iconic musical comedy created by the legendary creative team of Leonard Bernstein, Betty Comden, Adolph Green, and Jerome Robbins – will begin preview performances at the Lyric Theatre (formerly the Foxwoods) on Saturday, September 20 with an official opening night of Thursday, October 16. On The Townwill be directed by John Rando (Tony Award® winner for Urinetown), who helmed the recent critically acclaimed City Center Encores and Barrington Stage productions, and will feature choreography by Joshua Bergasse (Emmy Award® winner for “Smash”), who choreographed the Barrington Stage production and makes his Broadway debut as a choreographer with this show.

Tickets will go on sale to the general public on Monday, May 19 and will be available at Ticketmaster.com.

The Bronx is up, the Battery’s down, and three sailors are hoping to get just a little bit lucky on their one day of leave in the Big Apple. From the Brooklyn Navy Yard and Coney Island to Times Square and Carnegie Hall, On The Townzigzags through New York City as the sailors and the three high-spirited young women they meet chase love, dreams, and each other during an unforgettable day in the city that never sleeps. The classic score features the standards “New York, New York,” “I Can Cook Too,” “Lonely Town,” and “Some Other Time” and will be played in this production with their original orchestrations, performed by what will be the largest orchestra on Broadway, with 28 musicians led by musical director James Moore (Follies, Ragtime).

HOLLER IF YA HEAR ME Announces Casting

Award-winning slam poet, actor, singer, musician Saul Williams (Slam), Christopher Jackson (After Midnight),Saycon Sengbloh (Motown The MusicalFela!), Ben Thompson (Matilda), John Earl Jelks (Radio Golf – Tony nomination), Joshua Boone (Brownsville Song [b side for Tray] at Actors Theatre of Louisville), Dyllon Burnside(“Prison Break”) and Tony Award winner Tonya Pinkins (Jelly’s Last JamCaroline or Change, Play On!) will star in Holler If Ya Hear Me, the new Broadway musical inspired by the lyrics of Tupac Shakur.  Written by Todd Kreidler and directed by Kenny Leon, Holler If Ya Hear Me will begin performances on May 29, 2014 and open June 19, 2014 at the Palace Theatre (1564 Broadway at 47th Street).

Holler If Ya Hear Me, the world inside Tupac Shakur’s music and lyrics, blazes to life in a non-biographical story about friendship, family, revenge, change and hope. Inner city lives struggle for peace against the daily challenges they face in this entertaining and original musical. Through the poetry of one of the 20th century’s most influential and culturally prominent voices, we are given a window into realities of the streets still relevant today.

Saul Williams will play John, Christopher Jackson is Vertus, Saycon Sengbloh is Corinne, Ben Thompson will play Griffy, John Earl Jelks will play Street Preacher, Joshua Boone is Darius, Dyllon Burnside is Anthony and Tonya Pinkins will play Mrs. Weston.

Complete Cast Announced For First National Tour of MOTOWN THE MUSICAL

Producers Kevin McCollum, Doug Morris and Berry Gordy are proud to announce the complete cast for the First National Tour of Motown The Musical .
As previously announced,Clifton Oliver and Allison Semmes will star in the leading roles of Berry Gordy and Diana Ross. Portraying groundbreaking Motown artists, Nicholas Christopher will play Smokey Robinson and Jarran Muse will play Marvin Gaye. Leon Outlaw, Jr. and Reed L. Shannon will portray Berry Gordy’s boyhood counterpart and the roles of young stars Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder.
