Tony Award® Nominee Phillip Boykin To Reprise His Role In The National Tour of The Gershwins’ PORGY AND BESS

The National Tour of The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess winner of the 2012 Tony Award for Best Musical Revival, will star Theatre World Award winner and original Broadway cast member Phillip Boykin, who will reprise his Tony, Drama Desk and Outer Critic Circle Award-nominated role as Crown. Boykin joins previously announced original Broadway cast members Nathaniel Stampley as Porgy and Alicia Hall Moran as Bess. The national tour, which begins in the late fall of 2013 will travel to more than 20 cities in its first season, including Los Angeles (Ahmanson Theatre), Seattle (5th Avenue Theatre), Dallas (Winspear Opera House), Charlotte, Detroit, Pittsburgh, Des Moines, Tampa, Las Vegas, Cleveland, West Palm Beach, Tempe, St. Paul and Greenville with additional cities to be announced in the coming days.

2012 Tony Awards Showcase at the Times Square Museum And Visitor Center

The Tony Awards will host the second annual Tony Awards Showcase at the Times Square Museum and Visitor Center (located on Seventh Avenue between 46th and 47th Streets). The Tony Awards Showcase will run from today through the Tony Awards on Sunday, June 30th. Admission to the 2012 Tony Showcase is free to the public. 

The 2012 Tony Award Showcase will include historic Tony memorabilia from the past 66 years including an actual Tony Award, an Audemars Piguet Clock from the Tony Awards Red Carpet and costumes from Tony nominated and winning shows including Evita, Jesus Christ Superstar, Porgy and Bess, Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark, Sunset Boulevard, Phantom of the Opera, and many others, all of which are on loan from Theatre Development Fund’s Costume Collection. 

The 2012 Tony Awards will be broadcast in a live three-hour ceremony from the Beacon Theatre on the CBS television network on Sunday, June 10, 2012. PS Classics To Record Two-Disc Broadway Cast Album of THE GERSHWINS’ PORGY AND BESS

PS Classics, the label dedicated to the heritage of Broadway and American popular song, will record the New Broadway Cast Album of The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess on March 12 & 13, 2012. 

The two-disc set will be produced by PS Classics co-founder, Tommy Krasker, who began his producing career with an acclaimed series of Gershwin studio cast recordings in the early 1990’s. Krasker anticipates a May 8th street date; the recording is currently available for pre-order at the label’s website, www.psclassics.com.

THE GERSHWINS’ PORGY AND BESS Extends Through September 30, 2012

Due to overwhelming popularity and demand, producers of The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess have announced that the critically-acclaimed Broadway revival has been extended, and is now on sale through September 30, 2012.
